The Power of Becoming
In our lives we have a great deal of significance placed on who we are  and what we are doing or have done. It is a results-oriented culture that we are part of. It manifests itself on our thirst for evidence  before we claim anything to be so about us. It causes the boldest among us to hesitate before making a claim of some new state and trusting that our claim in of itself is causing the state to exist. This reliance on evidence keeps us from realizing our greatest hopes and energizes our greatest fears. We are minutely focused upon what or who we are being as derived from the evidence before us failing to recognize that the evidence can only reveal who we were being before.

I want to introduce the idea of becoming into the mix of concepts we are engaging. Becoming is a real time state. It is a state of transition from what was to what is coming next. Everything in existence is in this state of unbecoming what was and becoming what is next. All existence is in this change state always. In this change state the evidence of the past has no dominion over what will be next. It is not causal in relationship to what is next. It has no limiting power over what is to be next. The evidence around us is merely a witness to what was.

 By identifying with this state of change we release whatever power we have given to the past and whatever states we were identified with then. We enter into the zone of possibility for in the state of changing all things are equally available to be expressed next. When I consciously enter into the change state, which is the only real permanent state, I give my word power, for in this domain there are no contraindications or oppositions to what I proclaim. My proclamation has initiated a journey that is in process until it comes to pass and then the evidence for it occurs. No interim state has any defining or limiting power over my statement of becoming. A caterpillar on the road to becoming a butterfly is a butterfly all the way. Despite any appearances to the contrary its butterfly-ness is not dependent upon its current demonstration. In the same way our current state of expression and demonstration has no power to define who we are becoming unless we use the evidence to short circuit our intent.

For me I have declared my ministry is "awakening hearts and building lives" and no matter what is happening in any moment I know that this is the end result for everyone I contact or who has contact with my ministry.  Sometimes I can't recognize that this is the outcome that is unfolding but I know that it is. And I am in contact with my ministry so that is also what is happening for me. My heart is awakening and as I release my tendency to judge its openness it continues to unfold in ways I had never considered. In my SOM 400, my ministry class, today I suggested that over the summer with all that they had to do that my students take time to become present to the unfolding miracle that their lives are by allowing the time to get in touch with their "becoming-ness".  There is a greater self that is in the process of becoming as us and when we allow it the freedom to make real our choices to be it becomes beyond our greatest  dreams.

In the words of the German poet Goethe ' whatever you can imagine or dream, begin it."  Let  your greatest hopes and dreams be the basis of  your becoming. Trust that there is a greater self emerging from the ashes of our past regardless of the evidence of that past. Trust that your power to become is supported by the very fabric of our universe and that no thing or idea can ultimately determine that which are becoming.  Rest in the peace and harmony that the inevitability of your becoming makes real.
